I used to live in Austin too. And I never got to see the famous bats. =20
(They live under the downtown bridges over the Colorado River, especially=
=20
South Congress Avenue.)
Anyway, I don't have a word for 'bat' in Tech yet. The closest words I g=
ot=20
are:
urba 'squirrel'
k'un_ 'marten, sable' (i.e. a refined weasel)
*k' =3D ejective k; n_ =3D alveolar n as in Tamil
Still no word for 'bat', sadly...
By the way, for my cat, a long-haired Siamese female named Samantha or Sa=
m,=20
I have a 'pet name' (no pun intended), K'un_ah (or K'un_at), which is sim=
ply=20
the feminine for k'un_. She resembles a sort of fine-furred rodent in a=20
way.
Also, there just happens to be a language called Bats (or Batsbi). It's =
a=20
North (Central) Caucasian language very closely related to Chechen (Nox=E7=
in)=20
and Ingush.
