No, I *always* have to take several tries. Most of the time my tongue
uncurls before it touches my palate, and it becomes a plain retroflex.
In addition, I tend to coarticulate a glottal stop.
Frankly, saying [a?a] where ? is a sublaminal-palatal stop sounds a
lot like a seal barking.
