*skipam - Germanic noun of obscure origin.
1. Old English "scip," ship > ship.
2. MIddle Dutch "schip," ship > schipperke, skipper.
3. Lombardic "*skif," ship > skiff.
4. Old French "esquiper," to put to sea > equip.
