I, too, spent a lot of time when I was younger creating foreign/new alphabets.
Most of them were a bit simplistic (1:1 relations to Latin alphabet, etc) since
I didn't really have any knowledge of non-English alphabets and syllabaries.
And I spent a lot of time drawing maps of the countries and continents where
these alphabets might be used (I'm gonna have to go dig around in the attic now
and try to find some of them...). As with my interest in conlangs, I think this
was inspired by _The Hobbit_ & _T.L.O.T.R._
