I've always associated "learnt" with rural, "redneck" dialects, for some
reason.
Speaking of "learned", when did the distinction between one-syllable
"learned" (/lr=nd/) as the past-tense of "learn" and two-syllable
"learned" (/lr=nId/) as the participle (the learned scholar) develop?
