Quoting from my Turkish textbook (trans. from Russian): << #77. Consonant Harmony Law. ...Consonants assimilate according to their voicing, while followed by a suffix with initial consonant. If the stem ends with a voiced consonant, the suffix begins with a voiced one too; if the stem ends with a voiceless consonant, the suffix begins with a voiceless one too. Examples: predicative suffix in 3sn and 3pl, Loc. and Abl. cases suffixes. Bedri pilottur. -- Bedri is a pilot. (pilot+dIr) Palto dolaptadIr. -- The coat is in the wardrobe.
