Rockin', another one who knows of the greatness that is Ms. Aimee Mann :) My favorite song of hers, and the source of my sig is "Invisible Ink". It's about trying to get through to some one, and no matter what you do or say they can't see it. So, you might as well draw them a picture in "invisible ink". It's got some incredible music arrangement within that song, it starts with an acoustic guitar, and builds with violins, and cellos, and at the middle near an important chorus, full blown percussion, cellos and violins in a dramatic mix, which settles down to the guitar, and violins, which builds back up again, finishing off with the acoustic guitar. My God, it's an incredible song (friends of mine may disagree, but it always stirs feelings within me). The lyrics are well written. Mann is wonderful at word play, she really is quite in tune with clichés and common sayings, and uses them to effect. The messages in her song are easier to understand, I think, than Tori Amos (who i do adore) My favorite part of the song is the chorus: But nobody wants to hear this tale The plot is clichéd the jokes are stale and baby we've all heard it all before oh I could get specific but nobody needs a catalogue with details of a love I can't sell anymore. I sense utter desperation in the last line of that. I chose the lyrics in my sig because i thought they related well to Conlanging and language in general :) -- Something gets lost when you translate, It's hard to keep straight, perspective is everything - Invisible ink - Aimee Mann -
