Ah, that's not the rule in English, at least not as I was taught. All
abbreviations are terminated by a period; they are distinct from contractions,
which have no period but do have an apostrophe taking the place of the
replaced letters. (So I suppose it would be possible to use S't for "Saint",
but it's not standard.)
