Cutting and splicing helped with that (5 or 6 outtakes for every line
that made it into the final sample). Even though I practiced a few times
before I started recording, that didn't seem to help much. Basically
each phrase you hear with a pause between them was recorded separately,
with careful selection to maintain the overall intonation patterns.

I used Cool Edit (which also helped with noise reduction), but that
hasn't been available for a while. For something as simple as editing
out pauses and splicing phrases together, you could probably get by with
Audacity (audacity.sourceforge.net).

Some of the story is already recognizable by the time it gets to Gwr,
and parts of the original story are still apparent, but I think it must
have changed more after Gwr than before. I can guess how "that damned
kusimi still wasn't satisfied" ended up as "the shameful cougar wanted
more food", and it's not too much of a stretch to get from an umbrella
to the branch of a tree. Somewhere along the line (possibly my mistake),
the postman being playful changed to the cougar being playful. It'll be
interesting to see the rest of the links in the chain.
