OK, OK! Thank you very much (I mean it!), but before going on with chatting,
is there anything to add from our non-native-English speakers? I'd be
curious, but I expect it's basically the same everywhere, so.

Here is a list of some names used in Portugal:

- Albufeira (lake formed by seawater)
- Amor (love)
- Batalha (battle)
- Branco, branca, alvo, alva (white)
- Castelo (castle)
- Feira (market)
- Figueira; Figueró (Fig tree)
- Foz (river mouth)
- Vinhos (wine, vines)
- Guarda (guard)
- Lagos (lakes)
- Marinha (marine, navy)
- Miranda (sight-seeing place or area) - some place where you can have a
nice view of the surrounding area.
- Oliveira (olive tree)
- Pinheiro (Pine tree)
- Pombal (dovecote)
- Porto (port)
- Mós (millstones)
- Póvoa (roughly related to village)
- Rio (river)
- Maior (larger, large)
- Sal (salt)
- Santa (saint, fem)
- São, Santo (saint, masc)
- Terras (lands)
- Bouro (the name of an ancient tribe that lived in northern Portugal)
- Torres (towers)
- Vedras, vedros (old words for 'old')
- Vila (village)
- Vendas (sales, where a street market used to be made along the road)
- Penedo (large rock)
- Entroncamento (cross-road)
- Corvo (crow)
- Real, Rei (royal, king)
- Ponte (bridge)
- Barco, Barca (boat, barge)
- Lima (lime)
- Monte (mountain)

I hope this is somehow useful, and if there's an error somewhere I urge our
fellow Portuguese speakers to correct it.
