Well, 'do' works, although your the example sentence it wants to carry 'so' (a pro-adverb?!) or something semantically equivalent which doesn't appear to refer to anything stated in the--something stupid in me screams to put down 'apodosis' here--in the original clause. Even though it isn't always necessary to !do !so, in most cases we !do. - I hit John with a rock. ["do" is now proverb for = "hit John with a rock"] - You did? [= You "hit Jon with a rock"?] - I didn't, though I wish I did. [= I "hit Jon with a rock"n't, though I wish I "hit John with a rock".] - Was he being a jerk again? ["be" = "be being a jerk".] - Yes, he was. He always is. He should be more like Mary--she never is. [= Yes, he 'was being a jerk'. he always 'is being a jerk'. .. etc.] *Muke! -- http://www.frath.net/
