Well, as a native speaker of German I know which vowels to pronounce long and which short, but I am entirely unable to summarize the rules. This might indicate that the system is indeed way too complex ;-) ObConlang: This was one of the reasons why Germanech has no length distinction in vowels (another was that most Romance languages don't, either), and I am not sure which Germanech vowels are pronounced short and which long. ...brought to you by the Weeping Elf
