Actually, on rereading, I realize I misconstrued your question a bit. I
*think* that all cases of syllabic n before a vowel or y (in other
words, where n' is necessary to disambiguate) are from compounds. But
-nn-, -nm- (or -mm- depending on romanization), -nd-, etc. are not
necesarily compounds.
