I find that it happens rather often in my conlangs. I thought of a fun
vowel change that could apply to a language I've been fiddling with, so I
sat down and applied it to a paragraph of text to see how it sounded. I
really liked the results, now I'm puzzling through what it does to the
grammar. A two-gender system just disappeared, being replaced with a
5-declension system for nouns, two of the cases merging into each other, and
a whole set of inflections going away. And thus changes a language from
being agglutinative to inflectional. I've had it happen before, but never
so drastically in so short a time.
