Characters like ǽ should come through fine. In the past we've had
trouble with some characters of the Georgian alphabet and a few others,
but most extended characters work without any trouble. Depending on your
email software you may need to do some extra configuration to get it to
send as UTF-8. (UTF-7 should also work, but is less common.) In
Thunderbird, which I use, just click the "Send in UTF-8" button.
In theory we could use actual IPA symbols instead of CXS
(http://www.theiling.de/ipa/), but the CXS has become more or less
traditional on this list, and is easier to type. The CXS page has a box
you can paste CXS text and see what it looks like in IPA.
