Characters like ǽ should come through fine. In the past we've had trouble with some characters of the Georgian alphabet and a few others, but most extended characters work without any trouble. Depending on your email software you may need to do some extra configuration to get it to send as UTF-8. (UTF-7 should also work, but is less common.) In Thunderbird, which I use, just click the "Send in UTF-8" button. In theory we could use actual IPA symbols instead of CXS (, but the CXS has become more or less traditional on this list, and is easier to type. The CXS page has a box you can paste CXS text and see what it looks like in IPA.
