I once received an Urgent package from my US relatives. It was stamped
at an international airport in the US about 20 hours after they sent
it --- and arrived on the plane that left 3 days later. And when it
arrived in Denmark, a Danish postal worker got on his scooter and
brought it to my door, 4 hours after the plane touched down.
I'm told by the receptionist at work, who sends about 500 letters a
week, that it's still the same. Intra-US works fine, the European side
of the airmail works fine, but there's a mandatory delay of about two
days for mail getting on or off planes at US airports.
