The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras* used to not accept bisexuals on the grounds that they might appear to dilute the situation and also 'Roberts further noted that the policy [of not accepting people who identified as bisexual, queer or hetrosexual, as opposed to gay, lesbian or transgendered] was originally intended to reduce homophobic violence and sexual harassment at the Mardi Gras and Sleaze Ball parties from those people who were attending from outside the gay, lesbian, and queer communities' (http://www.anythingthatmoves.com/ish19/n-auspride.html). In general, googling for '"mardi gras" sydney bisexual' will turn up a bunch of results both related to this and other discrimination (and other unrelated things, too). * Which is what 'Mardi Gras' implies in Australia, which makes speaking to Americans sometimes Interesting. Also, there's the fact that some people consider them 'fence sitters': they consider them really gay people who refuse to come out 'fully', even though its entirely possible for them to be attracted to both. Obviously seeing as hetrosexuality is what is required for childbirth and these gay people aren't attracted to women (or lesbians to men), people who claim to be attracted to both are lying. The committee of Spaced Out, a homosexual-friendly (i.e. practically exclusive to homosexuals, because non--homosexual-friendly SF clubs in Melb. have nothing against their homosexual members) science fiction club in Melbourne, were described to me a few years ago as 'hetrophobic'.

Pardon me if this is out-of-line, but what's the way you speak? -- Tristan
