Telepathic aliens. I first considered that they might be aliens who
emit hallucinogenic gas (similar to the ones in the 50s and 60s that
emitted hypnotic gas that caused threatened females to stand & scream
rather than run away), but that's a bit old-fashioned, and won't work
unless either the roses are placed so that one must be close to see
them or they emit so much gas that all of the UK is hallucinating. So,
I pick telepathic aliens, perhaps even vampiric. How often do you lose
blood when tending them?
