TECH: going DSL (and Re: Strange E-Mail etc)

On or around April 6, I will be leaving good old dial-up egl.net and getting
_verizon_'s DSL service. As far as I can tell at the moment, this will
entail possibly switching to MSN 8 Internet Software, whatever that is.
I could of course continue to use egl.net, but it would cost extra........
the MSN stuff claims to have a Firewall, Virus protections etc etc.-- and
the one thing I'm concerned about is that egl.net was VERY good at catching
viruses in their filter (plus 80-90% of spam)-- over the past week or so,
for ex., they've been catching msgs of the sort described in the "Strange
E-Mail" thread at the rate of 3-4 per day, all are said to have the NETSKI
(....Y?) virus. So my concern is whether MSN (or Verizon) will offer
comparable filters and security, or whether-- gasp-- I'll have to do it
myself (which I'm ill-equipped to do, mentally, as I think y'all know*).
Any Advice, Suggestions??

I suppose I'll have to resubscribe to conlang with whatever new email addr.
