I revised the first couple of lines to look like this:

! &nbsp; !! Labial !! Dental !! Alveolar !! Postalveolar !! Palatal !!
Velar !! Glottal
|-
! Stops || p b || &nbsp; || t d || &nbsp; || &nbsp; || k g || &nbsp;


and it seems to improve.  Try continuing that way.
I'm not sure how to make the left-hand column a bolded
header and not do the same to every cell on the line, though.
Maybe you'll just have to do '''Stops''' etc. to bold the first
cell on each line?
