OT: Fontography

I have been told by one who has it, that "Fontography" 4.1, Windows Version,
will not run well on XP. I can get it for my old computer upstairs at an
"academic" price, i.e., 122 dollars instead of 390 dollars, which is a
considerable savings. Is it worth getting at the academic price? Has
anyone attempted to put it on an XP? Are there other font creating programs
that you would suggest that are affordable?
Of course I don't know how much I banged up this machine trying to download
Rick Harrison's Universal Language Dictionary, and then aborting the
process. Criminently!!
