Yep, similar except he didn't say things like "Gag me with a spoon" :). I
always tease my So Cal friends about their accent because they all tend to
do this a bit (some more than others). It was very odd, and i've never
heard anyone have an accent like that to the degree this guy had.
On some news show here in the US a while back, they had a guy who
described the characteristics of different regional accents in the US. He
said californians tend to draw vowels out longer than most other dialects
(IIRC). I'd say I do that too. Probably why friends from back east who
hear me say I speak slower.
