Sorry, you misunderstood me. They aren't perceived as American spellings---they're perceived as wrong, as much as <thier> is wrong for <their>. People aren't aware of the American spellings for these words, so they exist no more than <thier>. <Realize> and <color> are known to be Americanisms (even if the Brits can realize things, and we used to have colors), and so they aren't thought of as spelling errors, but may still be incorrect. They shouldn't get through in edited texts (unless, of course, specifically requested or its the house style or something). -- Tristan.
