Amharic is actually a Semitic language, not a Cushitic one.
I don't remember a lot about Amharic, even though I had a Structure of
Amharic course in college. (The notes from the class are buried somewhere
in my house.) As for phonology, I can tell you that Amharic has ejective
consonants, which are a lot of fun.
If I could reach my notes, I'd see what I could I tell you, but I can't do
that. If they turn up, I'll see if I can summarize them for you.
