In Georgian, the tendency is to mark plurality only on animates, or even only on human beings. So, the word for "goat" is _txa_, but the normal way to point to a bunch of goats is not _txebi_, but just _txa_. Of course, after quantifiers only the singular form is licit. ========================================================================= Thomas Wier "I find it useful to meet my subjects personally, Dept. of Linguistics because our secret police don't get it right University of Chicago half the time." -- octogenarian Sheikh Zayed of 1010 E. 59th Street Abu Dhabi, to a French reporter.
