Oh, this is a good one. Also, though it's not as in-depth, there's Lakoff
and Johnson's Metaphors We Live By. It's very famous (possibly because it's
*very* short), but really gets to the heart of how metaphors work in everyday
language (only English, though. "Women, etc." examines some other languages
[Dyirbal, in particular]).
