I forgot to mention... the Techian keyboard psaltery is also known by its
Greco-Arabic name, _k'anôn_ (i.e. qanoon). And it actually has one manual,
not two, but most notes are triple-strung (the first octave notes are
double-strung), with two strings (one for the first octave) sounding the
played note and one string sounding an octave lower.

I should've also compared the instrument to the Hungarian cimbalom, also a
dulcimer with legs and a pedal. Just add a keyboard.
