But  in the name "Moshe", the "hholam" (to use the same system of
transliteration as Steg so as not to confuse things here) is what is called
"hhaser" (= lacking), with only the dot on top, without the
carrier "vav" below it ("malei" means "full"). Whether or not this signified
a pronounciation difference from the "hholam-malei" in ancient
times, I don't know.
