En réponse à Tristan McLeay :
>& --> * (by me) { (by Christophe, but Christophe's is illogical)
No I'm not, and with very good reasons:
- I already use it as a diacritic to indicate tensed consonants in Maggel.
It's a phonemic feature which doesn't have any mark in IPA, and *, since it
is sometimes used to indicate emphasis, for instance in email, is a good
candidate for it. Also, in most fonts it is slightly raised, making it look
like a diacritic rather than a symbol in its own right, so it feels righter
to use it as diacritic. I also often use it has diacritic in my own
handwriting.
- Once you have freed both { and }, you can at least use one and you won't
create any misunderstanding.
- the OE-ligature is maybe the least used IPA character of the whole chart,
so it doesn't matter whether the character used for it is ugly or not since
you'll have little chance to ever come accross it. Also, since it's only
little used, you'll probably have to explain what you mean anyway, so it
doesn't really matter which character you use, as you'll have to say which
one you used anyway.

You need a straight mind to invent a twisted conlang.
