| Could anyone tell me what X-Sampa and IPA is? I mean I KNOW what

IPA is International Phonetic Alphabet. It uses lowercase Latin and Greek
letters along with small caps-form Laitn letters, and other letters with hooks,
extensions, curls, or even inverted letters for the entire gamut of sounds not
only in languages, but in speech defects (like the "feng" and the small w
stacked on another small w).
Since so many IPA symbols can't be typed from the standard 101 or 102-key
computer keyboard, there are at least two alternatives for e-mail-based lists
like this one: SAMPA (and X-SAMPA, which is extended SAMPA) and Kirschenbaum.
Both use capital and lowercase letters, numerals, letters with modifiers like
apostrophes and backslashes, and what not.
Do a Yahoo! (or other favorite search engine) search for X-SAMPA for more info,
since I don't know X-SAMPA all that well and it takes a while to explain all the
code.
Also, isn't there a Conlang FAQ somewhere on the web?
