Well, i don't know how much this is worth, but in one of the Narnia books
by C. S. Lewis, people sneaking through the forest near enemies replace
all their [s] sounds with [T] sounds because [T] is a softer sound less
likely to be heard by the bad guys.  I distinctly remember the phrase
"thee better" for "see better".
