Well, in defence of lurkers (I happen to know a few of them) this list has
a really heavy traffic and to read all the posts received through it takes
quite a lot of time, and answering even more. Not everybody has enough time
in real life to participate the discussions. Generally, that's the argument
I receive when I try to convince a lurker to delurk.

There's also a problem of timidity. I think quite a few lurkers are a
little afraid. When you see how high in technicity some of our discussions
go, I can understand that a beginner can be afraid of manifest him/herself
in 'la cour des grands'. To those people I answer that they mustn't be
afraid, they certainly know as much as us, and sometimes even more. I admit
that most of my knowledge of linguistics comes (directly or not) from the
list. When I began to post (one day after my subscription!), I was really a
novice, and yet I was really well received.

So I join my voice to Dan. Delurk please! We'd love to know about you and
your conlangs. The more people participate, the richer the list is. >>

in response, to the above.... i have an extremely small cube and shyness is
an issue to a point. Mr. Grandsire has a point too about the shear volume of
the incomming text it is rather difficult given my personal schedule. you
all inspire me with your drive and dedication to the art, though you speak on
another plane at times. i like to talk about Aniese, ilhoret, and Velandi,
but i need lots and lots o' notes, and to decipher the code is difficult to
do at a rapid pace... hehheh

in recognition of the lists' efforts to be understanding to the layman, i
must say that i personally have never been treated unfairly due to lack.
nevertheless, the technical load is great at times and can lend the
subconcious a barrier to the unlearned ;)

i feel comfortable to remain in the wallpaper for the time being, but i
intend to poke my head out a little more, in lue of this recent topic. If
there are any specific inquiries feel free to ask and i will try to answer to
the best of my ability... :)

so as always... Oel Oushean! (hail to life!)
