Actually /g@'rAZ/ is heard here also but IME /'g&rIdZ/ is far more
common. The Welsh _garej_ ['garEdZ] is a borrowing from English. I
believe the /'g&rIdZ/ pronunciation is common in some other anglophone
countries.
No, we don't keep carriages there; we've moved on a bit and keep cars
(i.e. automobiles) in them or more often IME just junk ;)
