A little island called Britain ;) Actually /g@'rAZ/ is heard here also but IME /'g&rIdZ/ is far more common. The Welsh _garej_ ['garEdZ] is a borrowing from English. I believe the /'g&rIdZ/ pronunciation is common in some other anglophone countries.
