An English pre-Christian goddess of dawn and spring; it's related
to "east".
BTW, does anyone know why the native Latin terms for the four
directions were lost in the Romance lgs in favor of Germanic
borrowings? "West" with its alien initial consonant (which
becomes "o" or "u") particularly sticks out.
