Because of your post, I just reviewed the conlang I made for a felinoid
species at Stone Age. It's made of purrings, groanings, hissings and
meowings. It's almost a language real cats could speak; I got inspired by
the various communication attempts my cat Yoko does. ;-)
I already have sketches for a phonology, an orthography and a grammar and
all I can is that IPA isn't suited for a non-human mouth. I just don't know
how to transcribe a purring i.e. a long continuous trill with various vowels
in the middle at the same time. I need to invent new transcription methods.
The name of the language: gawRu-eTo [g_vAwR\:M?EtCR\@] = Wind of Unity
The name of the species: duwRu-Si [d_vMwR\:M's:i\] = Uplifted I(s)
Thanks to the purring in the middle, both words are only 2 syllables long
but IPA fails at rendering these "nuances".
