I think your confusing two quite different things here; when you have trouble understanding another accent/dialect, you have trouble with alien words for familiar things or alien pronunciations of familiar words, whereas the trouble understanding the geeks generally is mostly due to unfamiliar words for unfamiliar things and, even worse, familiar words for unfamiliar things.
