I don't -speak- any dead languages; I can, however, read most Old English and
Old French texts (especially prose). I took four-plus years of Latin in middle
and high school; Mr. Miller would hunt me down, though, if I were to claim any
competence. I've dallied with Ancient Greek (mostly Koine), and translated part
of the Gospel of John, but I wouldn't call my Greek fluent by any stretch of
the imagination. I'm now trying to learn Middle Welsh.
I'm still working on my translation of Yeats's "The Second Coming" into Old English...
(Sanskrit! There's an idea! And there's a primer for a "mere" $33 post-discount at the
bookstore I work at...)
