We were taught to make a difference between palatal, dental and retroflex sounds. The only problem was, I was studying Chinese at the same time, and my Sanskrit teacher and my Modern Chinese teacher had quite different ideas about those sounds. When I started with articulatory phonetics the year after, it turned out both were quite wrong. Boudewijn Rempt | http://www.valdyas.org
