I don't know what's the official line is, but the guys at the electrical
engineering dept. say [,me:ga'o:m]. Of course, Swedish and English usage may
differ.
The only instance in which I would drop a vowel in a SI prefix is "hectare" (Sw
_hektar_).
Google finds three instances of "megoctet" (all in French) and some 11k of
"megaoctet", also mostly in French. It's apparently the name of some musical
outfit, but there are also quite alot of stuff about computer storage.
