I know little Sanskrit, but I think its number system is probably pretty complicated. A lot of it is probably due to those sandhi rules.

I was just contemplating base-840, which can be divided by all whole numbers from 1 to 8. Or base-2520, for 1 to 10. Then I just decided to stick with base-60, which can handle 1 through 6. At least for now. (All this work on Just Intonation is making me obsessed with prime numbers.)
