Maybe we could go for the old idea of Bospherous(sp), namely "ox
turning" that thew ancients used (Greeks mostly, buy not all).
Or the idea of having letters that can be written backwards to the what
is called the "norm".

Example, C which was written < in old greek, in the reverse would be >
<<<<<<

Hmm... boustrophedon (probably a closer spelling?) writing is fairly rare, but
there is one (possibly wierder) natlang example I know of ("hanuno'o") that has
text laid out in lines (or columns), but with no predetermined order or
orientation of those lines/columns, ie

The quick
brown fox
jumps over
the lazy dog

is just as likely as:

g
o
dr
 exk
yvoc
zofi
a u
lsnq
 pw
emoe
hurh
tjbT

Also, characters within a text may take any orientation or reflection
(unfortunately I can't show this in ASCII), but all characters are consistently
oriented within any given text.

Of course, all this pales into insignificance when you see the writing systems
that have been created by the members of this list!
