While we're on the subject, I have some new Vietnamese neighbors
and so was trying to learn some phrases in their native language.
But I got stopped dead by the phonology. How does one produce
the palatal (or "laminoalveolar") stop /c/? What is preglottalization?
Recordings of the sounds aren't helping me reproduce them - /c/ is
indistinguishable from /k/ to me (well, it sounds like [g] initially;
presumably that's an allophonic variant to [J\]). So any tips would
be appreciated.
