Yes, 'kitab' is borrowed into *many* languages indeed.
Suahili is especially funny about borrowings due to the reanalysis of
prefixes as classes. The ki-/vi- class is also used for borrowing
'video', I think, so the singular in Suahili is 'kideo'. :-)
