A group of people (sometimes disaffected exmilitary) who actually get together and plan out the Second (or Third, depending on Civil War point of view) American Revolution, which is not long in comming since it is the unstated goal of American Government to strip away liberties and control the populace a la the Soviet Union, 1984, etc. In other words, military experience + money + paranoia + conspiracy theories = tendency towards extremity. One guy (or even a bunch of guys) that believes in the sanctity of the C and is out to prove a point by carrying a gun isn't really extreme.

Possibly! I think a typical take in many parts here is 'weapons are the easiest means of _keeping_ it'; because it's a lot easier to control an unarmed population.
