In France it is said that the level of alphabetism (people who can read and
write) is about 95%, but the level of literacy (people who can understand what
they read) goes down to about 90%. That's quite low, and doesn't come (contrary
to what those extreme-right people say) only from the foreigners living in
France (they are counted in the figures).
