Yes I know, and I think it also has social features in
formerly h-dropping parts of England..? I understand
haich is/was stronger in Victoria than the rest of
Australia, which implies that we got it from the
Catholic Irish, who have formed a reasonable
proportion of Victorian settlers way back when.
(Though of course so many people came from all over
the world when gold was discovered, so perhaps its
just as possible it was a lowerclass English
export...)
