You not only need a font to render the characters, you also need a program that uses Unicode to store the texts you type, and you need an intelligent way of typing Unicode. That means input method editors for scripts like Hanzi, and keyboard mappings for the rest. <<<<<< I haven't seen a version in some time, (the last version I saw was on W= in3.11), but there is or was a Windows WP proggy called UniversalWord, which had= mind-blowingly good Multi-language support. IIRC, it had LTR-vs-RTL su= pport (no Vertical Script support), Surrounding Diacritics, Conjunct Characters (= including Arabic "Linked" Characters), Reprogrammable Keyboard Mappings and Multi= -TTFs within one Character Set. All of these features were fully user-config= urable. The version I saw was non-Unicode (probably pre-Unicode?), but came wit= h Fonts and Settings for at least a dozen Character Sets, such as Armenian, Rus= sian, Arabic, Hebrew, Devanagari and Tamil. What's more, it was Shareware! Unfortunately, at the time, I had no use for it, so it fell by the ways= ide. I'm pretty sure I've got it on CD somewhere, and I *may* be able to dig it = out and email it to any interested Windows users. I don't know if a new versio= n is available, or if the such a version would use Unicode, but I'm going to= look for an update tonight... Disclaimer: All the above is IIRC, but I think I recall fairly well. --- Pb = ************************************************************* This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
