TECH? Another List question

A week ago, I received a batch of files from another, so far unknown to us,
conlanger. They were all .doc files, and all opened successfully in
Wordpad except one (the largest 350KB) which simply produced a blank Wordpad
page, the lovely little hour-glass thingy, then nothing, nothing, nothing,
and freeze-up. He re-sent the file a day or two later, same problem.
What's going on? His problem (as I suspect) or mine (perish the thought)???
