War of the Worlds tv series

Does anyone remember the old 80's tv series War of the Worlds? It was
loosely based on the 1953 movie, which was in turn loosely based on H.G.
Wells' classic novel.

In the first season (of two) the alien invaders sometimes spoke in their
own language, which was translated as subtitles. I recently watched reruns
of the entire series and was struck by the alien language's seeming
coherency. In short, it appeared to me that the alien actors were in fact
using a conlang.

What I would currently be most interested in knowing is whether this is in
fact so. Can anyone verify that the speech was more than just random
strings of sounds? If so, who created the language? Has it ever been
documented anywhere?
