The earliest dated Olaetyan text (my first real language) is from 1980, =
and
I know that I started creating Olaetyan sometime after I saw _Star Wars_ =
in
1977. Olaetyan probably goes back to 1978, but it might have been as late
as 1979. My first copy of _Lord of the Rings_ (the Ballantine paperback
edition with its inaccuracies) was printed in 1980. So although Tolkien's
works had a significant effect on my interest in conlanging, I should =
also
give credit to _Star Wars_ for the initial inspiration. But it wasn't =
long
after reading LotR and _The Silmarillion_ that my languages really began =
to
multiply and diversify.
